For years the songs piled up the way they do for the writers who can't help it — more than seventy of them now, written in kitchens and on porches and in the long quiet after the house goes still. Songs about anniversaries at the county fair. About a jewelry box nobody's ready to open. About a dog walked alone on a beach where the ashes went out with the tide.

The Heartstringers is where those songs finally get sung. No hurry, no gloss — just the old country promise that a sad song, sung warm, can be the most comforting thing in the room. That's the whole idea behind the name. Tears warm the soul.

The writer

For years the songs stayed on the page. RT Wright spent a working life in front of a classroom and a lifetime quietly filling notebooks — seventy-some songs now, about anniversaries and jewelry boxes and long goodbyes, the things that come to matter more the older you get. He writes for the golden-oldie years the way only someone happily living in them can, which is another way of saying he writes for all of us, eventually.

Good songs and no way to hear them out loud is the oldest story there is for a writer. Then an old family friendship brought Brian into the picture — part computer expert, part music magician, and just the person a shelf of unheard songs had been waiting for. What Brian makes from a page of RT's words is, to RT, a small miracle. What RT's songbook is to Brian is a labor of love.
